In its monthly report published on Thursday, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) said that it lowered the 2022 full-year demand growth forecast to 3.1 million barrels per day (bpd) from 3.36 million bpd, as reported by Reuters.
BERLIN, Aug 11 (Reuters) - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Thursday pushed for the construction of a pipeline from Portugal through Spain and France to central Europe to wean Europe from Russian energy dependence.
"Such a pipeline would massively relieve the supply situation now," Scholz told reporters in a news conference in Berlin.
He said he had touched upon the issue in talks with the leaders of Spain, Portugal, France and the European Commission in Brussels and lobbied strongly for setting up such a project.

DXY remains well on the defensive and puts the 105.00 support under further pressure on Thursday.
If the selling bias picks up extra pace, the dollar risks a deeper pullback to, initially, the August low at 104.63 (August 10), just ahead of the 6-month support line, today near 104.50.
Looking at the broader scenario, the bullish view in the dollar remains in place while above the 200-day SMA at 99.98.

PARIS, Aug 11 (Reuters) - The head of the European Space Agency (ESA) has warned economic damage from heatwaves and drought could dwarf Europe's energy crisis as he called for urgent action to tackle climate change.
Director General Josef Aschbacher told Reuters successive heatwaves along with wildfires, shrinking rivers and rising land temperatures as measured from space left no doubt about the toll on agriculture and other industries from climate change.
"Today, we are very concerned about the energy crisis, and rightly so. But this crisis is very small compared to the impact of climate change, which is of a much bigger magnitude and really has to be tackled extremely fast," he said.

US consumers looking to furnish their homes or apartments with new dining- and living-room sets may want to hold off for a while longer.
That’s because a report from the Commerce Department on Wednesday showed wholesale inventories of furniture are piling up as sales dropped for a second month. Excluding the pandemic, the wholesale inventory-to-sales ratio for furniture and home furnishings increased to a record.

Only old people experienced real recessions--those in 1973-74 and 1980-82. Recessions since then have been shorter and less systemic.
In the good old days, a recession laid waste to entire industries which never recovered their previous employment. People who were laid off couldn't find another job. Major sectors of the economy dried up and blew away. Jobs were scarce and there was an oversupply of people looking for work.
We're told consumer confidence is in the dumps and everyone expects the worst: recession! Oh Lordy. Interestingly, there isn't much evidence of this near-panic behaviorally. Everyone's tightening their belts and battening down the hatches, but it's not the cliff-dive we see in a real recession.
There's certainly a lot of froth to be scraped off the latte, but what I'm curious about are the armatures of the economy and what I'm seeing is the crowd ignoring key dynamics because they're so busy pushing the Recessionary...
