- Carolina Echeverría let three people into her home, as they were disguised as doctors. She believed they had come to care for her husband, but they attacked him and shot her in the head. No arrests have been made, and it is not clear what was the motive for the killing.
- Horrific footage shows a fire raging through a Greek island as people were forced to evacuate. More than 1,300 people had to flee the island of Evia by boat on Friday evening. High temperatures and strong winds have fanned more than 150 wildfires in the country.
- EasyJet tried to remove two Black men from a flight for refusing to put on their shoes for take-off. A video shows passengers objecting to the treatment of the two men. The men were ultimately allowed to stay on the flight, and the cabin crew was changed instead.
- A tiger attacked a woman at a safari park in Chile. The woman later died due to her injuries. The woman was cleaning the enclosure, but the tiger's cage door was left open. An investigation is being carried out into how the door was left open while someone was in there.
- Wildfires continue to rage across Greece, as well as Turkey, Italy, and Spain. Thousands of residents have been evacuated, with their homes detroyed. Ancient Olympia is under threat from the fires, with over 250 wildfires sparked in recent days.
- Archaeologists have found ancient artefacts from the sunken ancient city of Thonis-Heracleion. They found wicker baskets still filled with fruit from the fourth century BCE. Thonis-Heracleion was an ancient Egyptian city that is now submerged underwater.
- A video captured the moment thousands of people tried to enter a vaccination center in Indonesia. The scenes raised concern over the lack of face masks and social distancing at the site. Indonesia has turned into a COVID-19 hotspot as the country struggles to get people vaccinated.
Several countries are going ahead with plans to administer COVID-19 vaccine booster shots to their populations, despite the World Health Organization (WHO) calling for countries to abstain from administering the additional shot until at least the end of September.
"I understand the concern of all governments to protect their people from the Delta variant. But we cannot accept countries that have already used most of the global supply of vaccines using even more of it, while the world's most vulnerable people remain unprotected," WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesustedros said at a media briefing on August 4.
More than four billion vaccine doses have been administered globally, with more than 80% going to middle- or high-income countries, according to the WHO.

In an Instagram post shared Wednesday, Cyrus wrote: "As a proud and loyal member of the LGBTQIA+ community, much of my life has been dedicated to encouraging love, acceptance, and open mindedness. The internet can fuel a lot of hate & anger and is the nucleus of cancel culture...but I believe it can also be a place filled with education, conversation, communication, & connection."
