The K2 unit at the Karachi Nuclear Power Plant in Pakistan, the first overseas unit using China's homegrown Hualong One technology, successfully completed hot functional tests (HFT) on Friday, according to China National Nuclear Corporation.
The success has laid a solid foundation for subsequent major processes, including nuclear fuel loading and grid-connected power generation.
HFT plays a significant role in the construction of the nuclear power project by simulating the actual operation conditions of the nuclear power plant to verify the reliability of the main equipment and systems under the thermal conditions, before the nuclear reactor is loaded with nuclear fuel.
It is also a comprehensive inspection on the quality of the reactor coolant system equipment, pipeline sealing and welding, as well as the design, manufacture and installation of relevant systems.
Hualong One technology, also known as HPR1000, is one of the third-generation nuclear...

COPENHAGEN (Reuters) - Danske Bank (DANSKE.CO) will pay out a total of up to 100 million Danish crowns ($16 million) in compensation to 900 customers after over-charging them for an investment product, it said on Friday, in the latest scandal to hit the Danish bank.
The overcharging, which relates to an investment product called Danske Portefoljepleje between February 2017 and July 2018, was discovered after review of a similar case, Denmark’s biggest bank said.
“Our review shows that approximately 900 customers were not adequately informed about the expected negative net return for the affected low-risk strategies,” Bente Nielsen, Danske’s head of private banking in Denmark, said in a statement.
The bank said the findings came after reviewing similar problems with its Flexinvest Fri product, for which the country’s financial watchdog had reported Danske to the police.
The bank last year said it had failed to inform customers it expected poor...
- Brian Belski of BMO Capital Markets told Bloomberg that the stock market's low on March 23 was the "control alt delete" reset button for the next 10-year bull run, the second half of a 20-year secular bull market. But the strategist cautioned investors to not play the same strategy that they did following the 2008 financial crisis. Cyclicals, emerging markets, and oil may not be the move this time around. "Bottoms-up stock picking" and "good old-fashioned" fundamentals will dominate this next bull market, Belski said.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is advancing quickly toward replacing the official metal tag – the most common being the “bangs tag” – with RFID tags.
In July of 2020, USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) published a proposal in the Federal Register to phase out the metal clip tags and replace them with RFID (radio frequency identification) tags.
Under the recent proposal, USDA would stop recognizing metal clip tags (including bangs tags) as official identification for cattle and bison, and would only recognize RFID tags by 2023. Beginning in 2022, they would not allow the use of the metal clip tags for official USDA use such as for bangs vaccination identification.

Top US dealers’ liquidity risk gauges projected a larger amount of deposit outflows over Q2 compared with Q1. This implies that deposits have become a greater source of funding risk over the course of the coronavirus crisis because of clients bulking out their accounts.

As he explained in the first of a series of columns he is writing for Risk.net, Bouchaud is unsatisfied with standard quantitative models, viewing them as oversimplified and ill-suited to spotting tail events, or black swans, in complex markets.
What Happened: JB Straubel, Tesla Inc.’s (NASDAQ: TSLA) former Chief Technology Officer, has found a way to make electric cars cheaper by extracting batteries from old iPhones and other personal electronic items, The Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday.
Why It’s Important: All electric vehicles require a powerful lithium-ion battery for proper functionalities. Straubel was the man behind the powertrain design of Tesla’s lithium-ion battery.
Both Elon Musk and Straubel share a similar passion for automobiles. Musk is more flamboyant and outgoing, whereas Straubel is said to be more introverted and prefers to work behind-the-scenes. After he left Tesla a year ago, Straubel committed himself to solve the material problem required to make the batteries for Tesla cars and other electric vehicles.
Good Tuesday morning!
If you didn’t see the disclosure on top that it’s paid for by taxpayer funds, would you think this mailer Rep. Jeff Van Drew recently sent constituents was official or from his campaign?
Every member of Congress sends communications to constituents. But this one is on another level. There’s not much information in it. But there’s two big photos of Van Drew. And it has vague language about Van Drew supporting Social Security and Medicare. I found flyers from Donald Norcross, Bonnie Watson Coleman and Mikie Sherrill that arguably blur constituent service and politics, but they’re not really close to this one.
The reason it crossed my inbox is because it looks political. But what’s more interesting is that, perhaps because of post office delays, it took several weeks to reach at least some constituents’ mailboxes. Van Drew’s office showed me documentation that this was sent August 3rd — one day before the 90-day pre-election “black out”...
By A Paris – Alternative data and data science techniques can help give hedge funds a competitive edge but, it is the symbiotic integration of human and machine which ultimately underpins managers’ success or failure in their use of these techniques.
The United States gets all the headlines these days, but coronavirus has not spared Mexico. In late August the country reached a grim milestone: its 60,000 pandemic death among more than half a million known cases. But even as it continues to grapple with the health crisis, Mexico’s leading business school has turned its attention to what business — and graduate business education — should look like in a post-pandemic Mexico, and by extension throughout Latin America.
EGADE Business School, the postgraduate business school of Mexico’s Tecnológico de Monterrey — considered (if not ranked) by many to be the top B-school not only in Mexico but across Latin America — published a 10-point Decalogue for the Economic & Business Refounding of Mexico in July that serves as a guide to “reactivating” the country through a more conscious model of doing business, and taking advantage of the opportunities that arise after Covid-19. It also lays out the role that...
Artificial intelligence: the science fiction buzzword of the 20th century, and the tech buzzword of the 21st. While its ubiquitous appearance in marketing copy may have diluted its meaning somewhat, true artificial intelligence is already powering the products, services and customer experiences of some of the tech industry’s biggest players.
At its heart, artificial intelligence is perfect for several clearly defined use cases. Among them: UX/UI personalization, automated data management and analysis of that data at scale.
These applications make AI particularly important to e-commerce and big data companies, along with insurance and fintech companies that can build predictive models on technology that analyzes huge datasets. These engineering leaders are at the forefront of AI’s evolution in their respective fields, and they spoke to Built In about the trends they’re seeing across the industry.
REIT coverage and commentary are plentiful on the internet, including Seeking Alpha, and much of it is quite good.
However, the bulk of this coverage is based on fundamental analysis and human judgment, which is perfectly fine, but there’s room for a different approach.
I, too, apply human analysis to the REITs, but work with a group selected through the use of a quant model, one based on market sensibilities as opposed to rehashed academic.

Aside from your classmates, what was the key part of the school’s MBA programming that led you to choose this business school and why was it so important to you? Fit. Culture is critical and I felt right at home with UNC Kenan-Flagler. I think so many elements are important, like geography for recruiting, industry strengths, campus life, etc., but if you aren’t a good fit your experience can suffer.
UNC Kenan-Flagler culturally felt much like the things I loved about Deloitte. After speaking with students who either came from or went to...

The MiFID II cost and charges and inducements regime - which entered into force on 3 January 2018 - were heavily debated in the run up to MiFID II and the implementation of the rules has caused significant headache for the industry. Like all EU regulation MiFID II is also subject to a periodic review. Article 90(1) of MiFID II and Article 52 of MiFIR require the European Commission (EC) to submit reports to the European Parliament and the Council on a range of areas of MiFID II, after first obtaining technical advice from ESMA. ESMA received a formal request (mandate) from the EC on 23 May 2019 to provide technical advice on several technical issues stemming from MiFID II and MiFIR, including certain investor protection topics. Also in the area of cost and charges and inducements a review was scheduled.
On 31 March this resulted into a technical advice in the form of a final report on the impact of the inducements and costs and charges disclosure requirements (Final...
