As Nasdaq continuously strives to advance inclusive growth and prosperity, we spotlight Out Proud Employees of Nasdaq (The OPEN), an employee resource group (ERG) that represents the LGBTQ+ employees, their families and allies. We spoke with Patrick Hughes, director and advisory sales liaison for Nasdaq’s IR Intelligence business, about joining The OPEN and his goals for the network.
What is your role at Nasdaq, and please describe what an average day looks like for you?
I am a director and advisory sales liaison in our IR Intelligence business within Nasdaq Corporate Platforms, based in London, U.K. Capital markets are fast-paced and always evolving, so my typical day can be quite varied! I can be found leading a discussion with a corporate client about buy-side investor trends, joining our sales team to present investor engagement strategies or discussing how ESG is being used by investors to screen for risk and make...
In September 2020, Humlegården launched a new green financing framework. The new framework enables broader green financing since it covers more financing solutions, which is a necessary precondition for reaching the target of fully green financing no later than 2021. This means a more long-term sustainability focus with a clear connection to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
But Jacqueline Carrington, the Southern California-based founder of nail polish startup, People of Color, wouldn’t be one of them.
Upon entering the Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center Mentorship Circle program, the married mother-of-three indicated to her mentors that she wanted to “continue to scale, but not at an overwhelming pace.”
For this reason, one of the main questions Jacqueline wanted answered during the program was: "How can an entrepreneur stop their startup growing too quickly?"
Today’s Big Picture
Equity indices in Asia-Pacific finished today’s trading mostly, lower led by the 1.1% fall in China’s Shanghai Composite and the 0.7% drop in Hong Kong’s Hang Seng. Japan’s Nikkei closed 0.5% lower while South Korea’s Kospi finished the day 0.6% higher. By midday trading, European equity indices were modestly higher and U.S. equity futures point to a mixed market open later this morning.
While there will be a few pieces of U.S. economic data out this morning, the main thrust of today’s equity trading will hinge on the outcome of the Fed’s latest monetary policy meeting this afternoon. In addition to the Fed’s policy statement, it will also be issuing its updated economic forecast, giving investors and traders much to parse through as they get ready for Fed Chairman Powell’s 2:30 PM ET press conference. While the central bank is not expected to take any immediate action, we suspect there will be ample slicing...
Risk management is an essential responsibility for a board of directors, and more recently, investors have been urging corporate boards to broaden the range of risks to include environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues, such as climate-related exposure and supply chain risks. By taking a forward-looking approach and working to address emerging sustainability challenges, boards can unlock growth opportunities, according to influential proxy advisor Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS).
ESG has come to the fore of capital markets as companies shift away from shareholder primacy and embrace stakeholder capitalism, reflecting a commitment to shareholders, communities, employees, consumers and suppliers. Amid this transition, investors have also been driving directors to consider the management of ESG factors and establish frameworks that reflect the company’s capacity to assess, monitor, measure and manage these risks.
...Great leaders have the insight to see what the right thing to do is, the skill to do it, and the courage to do it even when it is hard. When those three things come together, the impact a great leader can have and the number of lives they can touch are vast. In this episode, Host Gautam Mukunda speaks with two phenomenal leaders who have completely upended, transformed, and positively impacted the culture of their respective organizations. As CEO of Anglo American, Cynthia Carroll was the first female CEO of a major mining organization and in 2008, Forbes listed her as the fifth most powerful woman in the world. In 2017 Frances Frei served as Senior Vice President of Uber, and radically changed the toxic culture into one the employees could be proud of. She is currently a Professor of Technology and Operations Management at Harvard Business School. “I was relentlessly optimistic and rigorous about the future, and I think if you have...
