On June 2, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) published a final report setting out technical advice to the European Commission (EC) on the fair, reasonable, non-discriminatory and transparent (FRANDT) commercial terms for the provision of clearing services (the Report).

In the Report, ESMA sets out how conditions under which the commercial terms for the provision of clearing services are to be determined as FRANDT. In doing so, ESMA aims to balance the need to improve clearing clients’ access to clearing services and ensure that these services are provided on FRANDT compliant terms, while also ensure that the requirements are proportionate and within their mandate.

  • Kellogg Dean On Wild First Year: 'It Was Definitely A Baptism Of Fire' - Poets&Quants Link
    UltimateBlackbox Thu 04 Jun 2020 07:49

What a year to be new on the job.

Francesca Cornelli, dean of Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management, was already filling big shoes when she replaced Sally Blount last August. Blount had presided over the opening of the school’s $250 million Global Hub on Lake Michigan in 2017 and guided Kellogg’s first-ever major capital campaign to a successful $365 million conclusion. At the time, Blount was the first and only woman to helm one of the so-called M7 business schools.

Now Cornelli is the only woman in that rarefied position. But after coronavirus closed business school campuses around the world, her first year on the job went in an entirely unexpected direction.

“It was definitely a baptism of fire, I can tell you that,” Francesca Cornelli told MBA students Hamza Faisal and Gabriel Meizner, co-hosts of the Kellogg podcast The Doppler Effect, in a recent interview. “I have to say this has been a huge learning curve for me.

    “One of the...

  • Poets&Quants | Harvard Business School's Next MBA Class Will Be More Than 200 Students Short - Poets&Quants Link
    UltimateBlackbox Wed 03 Jun 2020 07:48

Harvard Business School today (June 2) disclosed that it will enroll an entering class of MBA students this fall will be more than 200 students shy of its more typical 930-to-940-student cohort. After dipping into its waitlist, the school expects to welcome a class of only 720 students because many students have decided to defer their enrollment by a year or two.

The size of the rollback in the class is a surprise. Many observers assumed that Harvard would have relatively few takers of its offer of a deferment to any admit who wanted one. The school gave every student admitted to the Class of 2022 the opportunity to defer their admissions offer and join a later class.  Many observers concluded that few admitted students would take HBS up on its offer, especially because a granted deferment could mean a wait of up to two years. That clearly was not the case, raising the prospect that its deferment offer backfired, making it less likely to enroll a normal...
