NEW PROGRAMME ‘ENERGY OF THE FUTURE’ ADDRESSES CHALLENGES OF 21ST CENTURY

OGUK and ITN Productions Industry News have co-produced “Energy Of The Future”, a comprehensive new programme exploring the societal and economic value of an industry at a crossroads of energy transition.

Underpinning modern society, the oil and gas industry provides 75% of our energy needs with the UK industry meeting nearly 60% of this, 270,000jobs and billions of pounds to the economy. With a shifting energy landscape and a drive to deliver net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 in the UK and 2045 in Scotland, “Energy Of The Future” explores how the industry remains at the forefront of technological development, driving innovation and shaping energy systems and efficiencies for a sustainable future.

Presented by newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky, OBE, the programme follows how the industry is adapting to some of the biggest challenges of the 21st Century,...

Operators are responsible for the emissions that result from the production of oil and gas. It is imperative that companies consider all options for lowering their emissions, including collaborating with others. Tackling emissions, together

T he energy transition and the need for drastic change is at the centre of almost every public conversation operators and policy makers are having — and rightly so. The special report presented by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) last year highlighted the need to hold global warming to 1.5°C rather than 2°C; currently, we are on course to exceed a 2°C carbon budget as soon as 2037. In May 2019, the Committee on Climate Change (CCC) published its formative report titled, Net Zero: The UK's contribution to stopping global warming . In this report, the CCC — an independent body established under the Climate Change Act 2008 that advises the government on setting and meeting carbon budgets and preparing for climate...

At the Offshore Decommissioning Conference which Oil and Gas UK co-hosts with Decom North Sea, OGUK will launch its flagship Decommissioning Insight report and highlight new supplementary guidelines which capture how fast the sector’s knowledge of project scopes has grown in recent years.

The decommissioning work breakdown structure (WBS) was developed in 2007 and first published as part of the OGUK’s cost estimation guidelines in 2013. Now a guideline devoted to the WBS is demonstrating industry’s intellectual capital in the area and willingness to develop tools that enable us to become as efficient as possible.

A huge amount of work has been done across the industry to develop and hone these guidelines as companies working with OGUK focus on ensuring that every lesson learned is incorporated for the collective benefit of the sector.
