  • I'm still positive on the economic outlook - especially after the virus is under control - but the medium term outlook is not as positive as it once was. There have been more prime age deaths than expected, and far less prime age immigration. 6/6

  • Almost a decade ago, I wrote "The future is bright!". I was excited about the economic outlook, and especially changing demographics. Tomorrow I will post some "dismal" updated demographics, and there are far fewer prime age people than I expected a decade ago. 5/

  • Of course this doesn't include the long-haulers - people that are suffering physical and mental issues. We don't know the long term issues. My sense is whatever economic gain we are seeing by accepting mass deaths, will be more than offset in the medium term by less growth. 4/

  • Some people might argue it is the "olds" that are dying. And only about 25% of the deaths have been working age people. That argument clashes with my values - protecting the weak - but I understand people have different values. 3/

  • Even now, I have hard time accepting 2,000+ deaths per day in December. I keep expecting behaviors to change more than they have. Of course I'm very optimistic on the 2nd half of 2021. There should be a significant boom after the vaccine is available. 2/

  • A few comments on the economic outlook: All year I've been too pessimistic on the economic recovery. The reason is simple - In my worst nightmares, I never though the US would accept 400,000+ COVID deaths in the first year of the pandemic. 1/
