When Melinda Pollack reflects on the proudest moments of her career, she often thinks about the day in 2016 that Sanderson Apartments in Denver opened.
As a senior vice president with Enterprise Community Partners, Pollack has a long history in affordable housing development. Sanderson Apartments represents many of the qualities Pollack says that good — as well as affordable — housing should embody.
The building design is meant to comfort and inspire fellowship among its residents, all of whom have experienced chronic homelessness. “For people who are used to living outdoors, moving into an apartment can be daunting,” Pollack says. “We wanted them to feel at ease and safe.” Enterprise provided financial support that allowed the Mental Health Center Denver to design Sanderson Apartments with a sense of openness in mind. The closets and kitchen cabinets in the units don’t have doors. A spacious patio occupies the middle of the complex. Natural light streams in...

“Scholarship America is proud to collaborate with Wells Fargo on its Veterans Scholarship and Veterans Emergency Grant Programs for the fifth consecutive year,” said Robert C.
