    The Senate passed a landmark tax, climate and health-care bill, speeding a slimmed-down version of President Joe Biden’s domestic agenda on a path to becoming law after a year of Democratic infighting that the White House was unable to control.

    The vote on the bill was 51 Democrats in favor to 50 Republicans against, with Vice President Kamala Harris casting the tie-breaking vote after an overnight marathon of votes on amendments. It now goes to the House, where the Democratic majority is expected to pass it on Friday.

    China’s imports of commodities in July offered some tentative signs of a demand recovery after the sharp slump earlier this year due to stringent Covid-19 restrictions and property woes.

    Inbound shipments of crude rose from the lowest in four years to 37.33 million tons as travel and transportation activity improved, according to government data released Sunday. Year-to-date volumes are still 4% lower, however. Iron ore imports also crept higher despite headwinds in the steel industry.

    Already suffering from the war in nearby Ukraine, eastern Europe’s main currencies are about to take another blow from a looming euro-area recession. 

    Traders are more bearish on the Hungarian forint, Polish zloty and Czech koruna than any other developing-nation currency except for Russia’s ruble and the Turkish lira, according to data collected by Bloomberg. And Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Fidelity International and InTouch Capital Markets all see eastern Europe suffering more than other emerging markets if the euro weakens.

    CVS Health Corp. is planning to submit a bid to acquire Signify Health Inc. as part of an expansion into home-health services, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

    CVS, which has drug stores and provides health insurance, is among the companies seeking to submit initial bids this week, the newspaper wrote Sunday. The Journal reported last week that Signify, which had a stock-market capitalization of $4.66 billion as of Friday, was exploring strategic alternatives including a possible sale.
