At a campaign stop in Vancouver, the leader of the governing Liberals promised to hike the corporate income tax rate by three percentage points on profit over C$1 billion ($793 million) at financial institutions. The measures, which would bring the rate to 18% from 15% currently, are expected to generate C$2.5 billion for government coffers over the next four years, starting in 2022, according to a party news release.

“Patrick is still in the hospital but he’s doing much better,” Justine Reed said. “It was very scary the last few days, and right now we don’t have a timeline on his recovery.

“I never count him out but I do know he will not be able to play BMW. We are just taking it one day at a time. We are following all of the doctors orders and you can sure bet as soon as they give him the go-ahead to play, he will.

“But our main concern now is just getting him back 100 percent.”

Institutional investors are loading up on Solana (SOL), with one-third of inflows to crypto investment products being invested in instruments tracking Solana this past week.

According to CoinShares’ Monday “Digital Asset Fund Flows Weekly” report, $7.1 million flowed into Solana investment products between Aug. 15 and Friday.

While the price of SOL gained a meager 1.4% on spot markets over the same period, SOL has gained 110% from $35.58 since the start of August to trade for $75 as of this writing.

CoinShares’ report notes that institutional crypto investment products bucked a six-week trend of outflows, with roughly $21 million flowing into the sector this past week.

Products tracking Cardano (ADA) were the second-most popular for the week, with inflows totaling $6.4 million. Institutions also poured $3.2 million into products tracking Ether (ETH), $1.8 million into Litecoin (LTC) and $1.1 million into Polkadot’s DOT.

Fifteen rescue dogs, including 10 puppies, have been shot dead by a rural Australian council under its interpretation of coronavirus restrictions.

Bourke Shire Council in New South Wales destroyed the canines, which had been at its pound, to prevent volunteers at an animal shelter from travelling to pick them up and potentially spreading the virus.

"The council decided to take this course of action to protect its employees and community, including vulnerable Aboriginal populations, from the risk of COVID-19 transmission," the Office of Local Government, a government watchdog, told The Sydney Morning Herald.
