• What a travesty of democracy. Manchester and UK gov’t squabbling over terms of Tier 3 lockdown and then failing to agree. Grow up and recognise we are in the middle of a global #Pandemic!

  • If local/regional and national gov’t can’t agree, what hope have we to defeat #Coronavirus? What a shambles - all parties should hang their heads in shame.

  • Good to see Gordon Brown interviewed by @KayBurley on @SkyNews this morning - talking a lot of sense about the need for better financial support for employment, especially targeted to younger people. A voice of sanity and experience which should be heeded.

  • Labour Party is arguing a 2-3 week circuit-breaker lockdown provides a breathing space to get Test and Trace working properly. But we’ve had 6 months to get T&T working. How will 2-3 weeks make a difference? And how does a lockdown solve the problems with T&T?

  • Today is Stevie Wonder afternoon. 4 great albums from the 70s - Talking Book, Inner Visions, Fulfillingness’ First Finale (FFF) and Songs I the Key of Life. Songs in the Key of Life is definitely the best, followed by “FFF” and the other 2 albums. Views, Twitter fans?

  • Not a supporter of lockdowns as a general policy. But even Tier 3 is mild compared with the restrictions imposed in April/May. With the right financial support package it should be manageable - the problem is that the gov’t has not come up with a strong enough package.

  • 3 big problems with the 2-3 week circuit-breaker favoured by Keir Starmer and others. (1) 2-3 weeks can easily extend to 2-3 months. (2) When the lockdown ends, the virus is likely to re-emerge. (3) Poorly targeted given large regional/local variations in infection rates.
